The video of the story I told at Imbawula a few months back is finally online. I forced my self to listen to the audio but I’ve only watched a few minutes of this video. I cannot stop cringing. I can’t bring myself to watch the rest of it because:

  • I am not made for the stage. I am shy as fuck and get awkward when I’m in the spotlight so I was obviously nervous and it’s easy to see in this video.
  • Am I the only one who finds the sound of their voice weird? I really don’t like the sound of my voice.
  • I can’t watch or listen to this story without getting teary eyed. I’m the biggest baby I know; my tears come way too easily. (You’ll see the floodworks towards the end of the video)

With that said, I hope you guys watch this video. I basically told my whole life story and left my heart on that stage. Some people have called me brave for it but I think it’s anything but. I didn’t need bravery, I found it easy to tell it; despite the tears and emotions. I’m an open book and I believe I suffer from a disease called self-revelation. I will tell my story, any story, to anyone who’s willing to listen. I’ve tried to tone it down a bit in recent years but I’ve also noticed that my openness inspires some to share their stories with me sometimes and I love listening to people’s stories. Not only because ndi funesa mafhungo but I genuinely enjoy it. Stories help us relate, they help us understand ourselves and each other better. They help us come to terms with our realities and sometimes they help us heal or atleast begin the process of healing. And that’s why I appreciate Imbawula so much. It allows us to do that. Sometimes it gives us comic relief or simply inspires. Either way, it’s a very necessary platform that I’m grateful to be a part of it and no, I’m not biased!

You are only -+25 years old. The next chapter of your life is yet to be written and only you can make it the best chapter.

I learnt that people build relationships and friendships. Don’t expent to just fall in love or find a person you can relate to at first.
