Listen | Una Rams – Girls Like You

Una Rams’ reggae-infused RnB single Girls Like You was only released a few days ago but it’s already making its way to the top of the charts. The song, which he co-produced with C-Tea – a Ghanaian producer who has made beats for the likes of Sakordie and Davido – blends the smooth sounds of RnB and a slow-paced reggae beat.

With this song, Una has proved once again that he’s as much a vocalist as he is a lyricist. “It was inspired by a friend’s story. He was involved in a relationship that seemed to be going well until the girl showed him her true colours,” said Una. He had to put himself in the friend’s shoes and imagine what it would feel like to be betrayed in the same manner.

He wrote the original hook a few years back and tweaked it to fit Girls Like You. “Initially, it was ‘blue seas and the blue skies, seasons change but our love won’t.’ So when the beat was in place and I had a verse written already, I discovered that the melody I used for that hook fit perfectly, so I did a little bit of tweaking so it could be in line with the theme of the song.” And now the hook goes, ‘blue seas and the blue skies, seasons change but girls like you don’t…”
